One day, many stories: on 3 October 2025, Germany marks 35 years since reunification. How has the country grown together since then? For many people today, a divided Germany is a thing of the past, but its repercussions continue to be felt in many different ways into the present day. On the anniversary of reunification, we take a look at some developments, debates and perspectives to try to answer these questions: what were the historic steps that led to unification? How has Germany changed since then? Which places of remembrance are keeping history alive, and which voices are shaping debates today?
