Dear newsletter-subscriber,

How do you save lives when bombs are falling, rivers are breaching their banks and people are starving? Germany has for many years been one of the major donors of global humanitarian assistance – in 2024 alone it amounted to 2.25 billion euros. Even in 2025, its commitment in areas of crisis has remained high. But where exactly does this money go? What assistance is the most effective – food, medicine, protection? In Syria, Germany is assisting with the life-saving clearance of landmines: How can you create safety among the rubble? And how does Germany assist in South Sudan where flooding is destroying harvests? Our prioritising of humanitarian assistance demonstrates how Germany is making effective use of its resources in close cooperation with NGOs.

Wishing you valuable insights
